How I dye my dark hair in red

Since a few weeks I was not satisfied anymore with my hair color. My hair has changed since I live in the US. They took the sun a lot during summer and finally I had a natural ombré hair : very dark at the roots and nearly golden to the ends. With winter, my roots seemed more and more dull and I didn’t like it at all ! So, it was clearly time to do something !

Since years, I dream to be a redhead. I imagined that one day I’ll be brave and will bleach my hair to apply a copper hair dye, but I was so terrified by hair bleaching that I was not ready at all to do it.

I saw a few days ago a really nice new hair dye from L’Oreal, a real copper hair dye (really orange) but I was pretty sure that it will turn strangely on my hair, so I didn’t give it a try. And as I was looking to the other dyes, I saw one who catched my eyes because it was specifically formulated for dark hair : the Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color with intensity enhancing technology for darker hair.

There were a bunch of different shades in this collection (even some blonde!) including some reds. Not copper like I was searching for but some beautiful reds that I eventually liked. I didn’t buy one the first time, I just came back home and searched about it over the blogs and YouTube to have an idea of the result…but I didn’t really find the answer.

I have complicated hair in term of dying and some hair dye I tried before just didn’t work on me (read my review about L’Oreal Preference – in French) so I really wanted to find something nice and that could make a real difference on my hair !

I finally bought the Garnier Nutrisse in shade R3 Light Intense Auburn. The shade seemed to be beautiful and I decided to believe that the special dark hair formulation will work.

Here are my feelings and the results in video :

I’m pretty happy to choose this hair dye because the result is beautiful. I hope that the color will not fade away quickly, that is a real concern with all red hair dye, but I will try to be gentle with it !

The application wasn’t really easy (like all hair dye in general when you choose to apply it on your own), but I did it ! I saturated my hair with the color to be sure that my entire hair will be colored.

When I rinsed out the product 25-30 minutes after, the water was really hard to runs clear. This kind of color is like that : hard to rinse and sometimes it continues to run out red in the next shampoos.

Once my hair dryed, I was so happy to see that the color worked this time ! So, now, I’m a redhead and without bleaching :-)
