Pregnancy Weight Gain

Another stress point in my pregnancy: weight gain.

My pre-pregnancy weight was 53kg. I am now 23 weeks along and have gained 9-10kg (22 pounds) depending on what time of the day I weigh myself. 10 freaking kg!!!!!

There are a number of friends around me who are pregnant too and I’m gaining the fastest! A friend gained only 3kg by 5 months, another has gained by about 5kg. A cousin gained 7kg when she was 5 months pregnant. But me…. I’ve gained 10.

I’ve of course gained all over my body: I think my upper arms and thighs are bigger, hips, chest area, face… but I think I look pretty much the same now as when I reached 55-56kg in the past. So then say I gain 3kg overall and 7kg due to the pregnancy… in 23 weeks… where does it go??

I was skimming through this highly detailed paper about Composition and Components of Gestational Weight Gain and conclude that at 23 weeks it is highly improbable for the combined weight of amniotic fluid, placenta and baby to exceed 2kg at this stage. But let’s be indulgent and say it is 2 out of 7kg. Where do the remaining 5kg go to then?

And at my last checkup the baby measures average on all measurements so she’s not too big.

I’m starting to think her bones are probably made of steel or she has more muscles or something and so she weighs heavier. Wahaha. That may explain how I could feel her movements so early at 12-14 weeks! Though she can’t be 5kg… =.=

I dread to hear what the doctor will say when I have my check-up this Friday. Gaaahhhh…
