GLITTER FOR YOUR CAKE

every Christmas and new years, more than any other time of the year, i channel northern europe and fairy tales. in addition, every year i make carrot cake (something many of you already know) but what is even more special is the decoration. the tree topper is always a big issue, and always a surprise. since i also always share the results with you this is what this post will be about. it is even more exciting this year however, because it turned out to be a great balance between fairy tale and glittery glamour which means perfect for new years if any of you would like to use the idea!

the basis of it came after reading this wonderful post on oh happy day! and of course thinking of "
stardust" again. well...
{my flickr}
this is what it looks like right before the finished product which you can see after the jump. what you need is:

two kinds of shiny and glittery paper
something to draw circles with (smaller and larger)
scissors
and hot glue
small kebab sticks
caramel, cinnamon dust, cocoa dust, and walnuts

once they are glued and dry
{more after the jump!}
you can place them onto the top of your cake! now, dust on some cinnamon and cocoa, and sprinkle a few crushed walnuts on top. that way it will look more like a forest floor.

you may be wondering what the caramel and all the rest yummy things are for. i made a quick caramel and let it dry on a sheet of aluminum foil. at the last minute, a bit before placing onto the holiday table, i crushed the caramel and created a little stone path. the fairy tale was complete!

what do you think? isn't it fun and pretty? our little ones enjoyed it as much as the grown ups!
