In Franklin County Missouri Police Officers served search warrants for 3 smoke shops in that county on July 26, 2018.

According to the Police reports the lab test on the products they sold contained cannabinoil, better known as cbd.

One of the owners of the store raided that day Zach Decarlo explained he does not sell anything illegal at his stores. “We don’t sell any pharmaceuticals, these are the products you can find at Walmart and target” said Zach Decarlo.

What is CBD……. ?

Cbd is a compound derived from the hemp plant cbd is used in many for from topical creams to edibles like cbd gummies which are typical sold as bears or worms like the candy sold to kids. Sales of CBD are estimated currently at 300 million a year and growing at rapid rate. Since cbd is made from hemp it can not make the user high.

In 2014 Missouri passed legislation which does allow people diagnosed with epilepsy to obtain a medical card which will allow them to get medical grade cbd oil.

DeCarlo claims they are selling within the right of the laws written by Missouri….

Reaching out to Missouri State Attorney General for comment News4 office asked if the stores that sell cbd products under the stated law are operating legally.

The States Responded: The statue vest enforcement authority over this issue in the department of agriculture. If the department orders penalties under the statue, our Office will defend and enforce them as appropriate under the law”

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol the reason for these enforcements is the current law on the books which includes hemp is in the same category as marijuana.

As of January 1, 2019 the sale of products of CBD will be legal in the State of Missouri, this begs the questions why raid store owners with only months left on the old law.

As a cbd enthusiast this makes no sense to me, unless these store owners where selling their products to minors. CBD is not addictive, you cannot over dose from cbd, and it has medical benefits. As with many raids it’s about abstracted money from the shop owner or the fact the shop owner sells smoke able products like cbd cartridge cbd vape oil or marijuana related glass wear.

Even as lot of the Country progress to more liberal stand on marijuana issue, many counties and states still have hard lines for these smoke shops. So easy way is to raid them for a non-related product making news and causing financial harm to the smoke shop in turn hoping they will go out of business.

We hope all these store owners keep up the fight and keep spreading the positive word of using cbd and medical marijuana. Without the people on the front lines the push to legalize will never come it’s been a long 20 years I been in this business and we have come so far..

We still have so much further to go.
