Most Common Dental Problems in the World

Dental problems were once a huge worry. The treatment was not top-class and oral health awareness was low. The scenario however is quite changed these days as advancements in dental technology means no problem is non-treatable. But yes, we need to understand that dental problems are never a good thing to have as they have a direct link with our overall health. For that reason, you should take oral hygiene seriously, brush the teeth daily, floss, rinse and eat a balanced diet to always stay on top of your oral health. In the meanwhile, you also need to know those most common dental problems people face.

To start with, bad breath or halitosis is easily among the most common oral problems in the world and surprisingly, most of use suffer from it yet we don’t know. Some of reasons for bad breath include poor oral hygiene, bacteria, plaque, cavities, dry mouth and gum disease. With little oral care, you can easily fight off halitosis even at home itself. Tooth decay or cavities is the next in line on the list of most common oral problems, which is, though preventable, also caused due to poor oral hygiene, bad food choices (sugar and acid in particular) and poor habits.

Further, gum disease or periodontal disease is quite a common oral problem which also remains one of major causes of tooth loss. Symptoms of gum disease include bad breath, bleeding gums, sensitive teeth, swollen gums. Smoking, use of tobacco, poor oral hygiene is among the major causes of gum disease, though it’s reversible with timely treatment and regular oral care. In the same way, oral cancer is also a common dental concern which mostly strikes to people who smoke, use tobacco or drink alcohol. Oral cancer can strike anywhere be it the cheek, jaw, lips, skin etc. and regular check-up can spot the problem early.

Mouth sores also feature among the most common dental problems, though they generally don’t last more than two weeks and may disappear on own. Canker sores and cold sores are two of common types and in both, the risk level is not high, provided they recede timely. Additionally, a lot of people feel bothered with tooth erosion which is the loss of tooth structure due to acid attack on the enamel. Although easily preventable, its signs and symptoms can vary from mild sensitivity in the teeth to cracking of teeth in extreme cases where damage is severe.

Stained or discoloured teeth are also a common dental problem which is mostly caused by poor oral hygiene and eating foods that have colour additives and pigments. If your teeth are stained, the roots will weaken leading to the risk of tooth decay over time. Similarly, most of us might have experienced some pain or discomfort to our teeth and gums while eating hot, cold or sweet items. This problem happens when we face tooth sensitivity which can be caused due to tooth decay, cracked teeth, tooth abscess etc. You can consult the dentist and get this problem treated easily.

Toothache is also quite a common oral concern that most of us face at some point in life, though causes for it vary from person to person. Pain in the tooth is mostly the result of tooth decay or a sign of something amiss with your overall health. If the pain does not go away in a day or two, it’s always better to consult a top dentist Greenpoint and seek professional consultation. After all, most dental problems are preventable in nature and a timely visit to the dentist can keep you on the safe side of the aisle forever.
