Fixed Blade and Folding Karambit Knife - Advantages and Drawbacks

Karambit Knife is the most fabulous knife I have ever used. From the design to the shape, everything is awesome. The thing I like the most about this knife is that it is available in two versions, fixed blade and folding blade. This allows me to avail the benefits of both versions of the knife. Since I have both of these versions, I often take time to compare them. And again, I am looking to do a comparison of folding and fixed blade karambit knives to let you know about the differences.

Fixed Blade Karambit Knife Advantages

Fixed blade karambit is believed to be a very powerful knife. It can do heavy duty cutting tasks. It can be used for cutting harder materials. Also, it is durable and lasts longer than a folding knife. If you are a hunter and camper, this knife can assist you a lot. It lets you cut wood and ropes and wires easily to make shelter.

Fixed Blade Karambit Knife Drawbacks

The biggest drawback of a fixed blade karambit is that it is massive. It has a huge size which makes it difficult to carry. You can’t place it in the pocket and walk comfortably. It does not fit in the pocket. If you do want to carry it in a pocket, you need to buy an additional sheath to cover the blade. Otherwise, there would be a chance of accidental injuries. Hence, you need to cover the blade while carrying it.

Folding Karambit Knife Advantages

Folding karambit knife is a very advantageous knife. It is used for doing everyday tasks and utility tasks. It can be used in the kitchen for cutting vegetables and fruits for preparing food. It can be used for tasks like cutting ropes, wires, and other materials. It can be used for opening cans and bottles. The biggest advantage is that it is easy to carry. The blade can be folded in the handle to place it in the pocket. You can comfortably carry it because there is no chance of accidental injury.

Folding Karambit Knife Drawbacks

A folding karambit is not supposed to do heavy duty cutting tasks. It lacks the necessary blade power to do so. It features a small blade that does not have the required power to cut harder materials. Also, it is not very durable. After using it for some time, the blade becomes softer and incapable of cutting different things. So, it lacks strength and power which is a huge drawback of this small knife.

Conclusion

Comparing the benefits and drawbacks of both versions of karambit knife, it is obvious that you need to look at the tasks you want to do with the knife before you get one. If you want a knife that is easy to carry and can do EDC tasks, you must choose folding karambit. I you want a solid knife for heavy duty cutting tasks, you should choose a fixed blade karambit.
