What are the rules for disabled parking in California?

There are rules and regulations attached to parking permits. Make sure your parking placard is clearly visible in your rearview mirror before getting out of your car. It's important to keep the sign in place, but it should not be left hanging while the car is driving. If you have a valid placard, you may park here:

When you see the International Parking Symbol on a parking place, you should always use that space (wheelchair symbol). To read more about handicap parking follow the link.

the blue curbs for disabled parking permits are to the right of these spaces

If you have a parking sticker, you may park on green curbs at any time, even if they have a time restriction.

Metered street parking is always free.

Places with permission signs allow both residents and business owners access (no permit is required as long as you have your placard)

It does not matter whether you have a disability parking placard:

Only those areas indicated with a crosshatched pattern next to the International Symbol of Access are equipped with wheelchair and elevator access.

There is no stopping, standing, or parking in front of red curbs.

Next to yellow curbs, which are allocated for commercial vehicles only, loading and unloading.

The immediate vicinity of white curbs designating specific areas for the loading and unloading of passengers

Gas shops must also fill your vehicle as a thank you for saving money on metered parking by filling your tank for free. In addition, even if you don't use the self-service pump, they have to charge you for self-service rates.

If there are more parking spaces available, it will be easier for you to go about. Keep in mind, however, that your placard may only be used by you. No one, even family members, may borrow or share your sign. Disabled parking placard holders must remain in their vehicles at all times if they have one. It is possible that if you misuse your parking rights, your permit may be revoked and you may face further penalties (such as fines or other punishments).

Once you've gone through these criteria, apply for a disabled parking permit in California right now!
