Do Cockroaches Multiply When Squashed?

Do cockroaches multiply when squashed? It is a question that confounds many people. Cockroaches eventually appear in many homes, and they are also notoriously difficult to get rid of. Typically, when someone first spots them, their first instinct is to crush and kill them. Once done, most people move it to the trash, with a hope that another one does not come by. What most people do not know is that cockroaches in their nature are stubborn.

For example, even once you have crushed them, some of them have been known to cling onto dear life, for as long as one full week. Again, they can live in an environment for elongated periods, without food or water, and still survive. Also once you have squashed them to death, they are capable of spreading all type of bad bacteria. Their bodies can quickly spread disease and allergies.

Do Cockroaches Multiply When Squashed? - What You Need to Know

Myths and rumors out there are of the opinion that if you squash a cockroach, there is high possibility of splashing their eggs out, which then hatch into large numbers of baby cockroaches. However, this is not the case. According to many reputable scientists, crushing a cockroach does not really spread and multiply cockroaches.

The reason is, in most species, eggs are in fact not hatched inside a mother cockroach. Instead, these eggs are simply having left attached to various surfaces of your home, where they will hatch on their own. Therefore crushing it doesn’t lead to any kind of multiplication and spread. The only concern is that the breeding rate is often on the higher side, and crushing one or a few of them is never the solution for complete elimination.

Methods to Eliminate Roaches in Your Home

Several ways are used to rid your home of invasion. These include:

1. Don’t Let Them In

One of the best control measures is to ensure that cockroaches do not come into your home in the first place. It means that you must try to remove anything that can entice the pests to be attracted to your home. Keeping all surfaces of your home clean; and ensuring that everywhere, including the garage, and yard are kept clean.

Food, water, and warmth, if accessible can quickly attract cockroaches. You will need to ensure that none of them is available. Also, make a quick effort to check and fix any water sources such as leaking pipes, and sinks.

2. Close Up All Points of Entry

Some of the common points of entry for cockroaches include pipes, doors, and windows. It’s important to do the inspections for all possible entryways, and close them up; by consistently doing this, you reduce all chances of invasion.

3. Keep Your Home Extremely Clean

If you ensure that your home is clean, and there is no trash lying about, chances for invasion, become greatly limited. It is because there are no food crumbs, and other kinds of food supply onto which they can feed and multiply.

Conclusion

So, do cockroaches multiply when squashed? Squashing does not actually multiply the number of cockroaches. In fact, it is a minor method of elimination. It is because massive amounts of eggs deposited on other surfaces of your home, eventually hatch. The best way then is to look for more effective ways other than squashing, to eliminate as many of these pests as possible.
