What Are Timeshare Weeks? What Are Their Types?

Timeshare weeks are among the traditional types of timeshare ownerships. These types of ownerships have designated blocks of time that buyers can purchase. This means a buyer can enjoy the ownership only under a dedicated time slot that he has signed for in the agreement.

Before we start our discussion on timeshare weeks, let’s see how timeshare prices are determined.

The price of a timeshare depends on different factors. Different companies sell timeshare weeks to the buyers. The price of timeshare weeks is set according to the following elements:

• Time of the year.

• Location of the timeshare.

• Amenities offered by the resort.

• Size of the unit.

Some resorts do not sell timeshare weeks, instead they sell timeshare points.

Fixed Week

A fixed week is a system under which you can purchase accommodations at a timeshare for one specific week, say the second week of January. The merit of this system is that your week is guaranteed. This system's con is that it does not allow you to reserve your own time until the contract ends. Every year you will get the same week. One more thing, if you do not use your week, you will forfeit your time without any compensation. Therefore, a good option is to join a timeshare exchange club or try to find someone to sell your timeshare week.

Floating Week

The floating week system provides you with a facility to buy a non-specific week within the range of dates, say from the beginning of January to the end of March. The merit of purchasing this system is that if you cannot use your week in January, you can use your week either in February or March. This option gives you more freedom than the fixed timeshare week system.

The Timeshare Exchange Program

The timeshare exchange program gives buyers the facility to exchange their week with another owner. For this, you have to join a timeshare exchange company. After joining a timeshare exchange company, you will be eligible to trade your weeks.

Apart from this, you can also sell your timeshare weeks to a buyer. But for this, you have to search for a buyer. The best way is to contact a contractor. Contractors have a list of thousands of buyers. If you contract a contractor, the chances to sell your timeshare week are higher.

Buying a Timeshare from Developer or Owner: What is the Difference?

When it comes to purchasing a timeshare, two options are available. Buyers can buy a timeshare either from the developer or from the owner.

Lots of sellers are available in a timeshare resale market. Therefore, buyers will get many options here. Moreover, they can also get sufficient time to research on the internet. Another facility that the buyers get in purchasing a timeshare directly from owners is negotiating the price.

On the other hand, if a buyer contacts a developer, he will not get much facility to negotiate. Besides this, he gets some perks from the developer, which an owner does not offer.
