Superfood Smoothies – Beating the Caffeine Fueled Energy Drinks?

If there was one food market that has sky rocketed over the past decade it has to be the energy drinks market. The search for an energy boost to get us through an ever fastening paced day has driven a market based around quick fix caffeine based energy drinks. But are attitudes changing? In an increasingly aware, social media frenzied society where brands such as Goop and Mercola are gaining huge followings and interest, there seems to be an ever increasing scrutiny of health and health related activity.

The rise of the Superfoods industry is therefore not surprising, but as a fledgling compared to the energy drinks market will it ever soar high enough to compete.

The arguments for superfoods over caffeine as a source of energy are almost too inumerable to mention. Most superfood powders come with a range of highly nutrition sources of protein rich, natural sources of long term energy combined with varying botanicals and nutrients to fuel the body. Comapring them to energy drinks is a bit like comparing running your car on a premium fuel it was designed for against a cup of rocket fuel.

The rocket fuel will work for a while before destroying your engine. The premium fuel your engine was designed to use will keep the engine running, improving performance over time.

The fight for hearts and minds depends not only on the health issues though. The main competing issue that keeps energy drinks in pole position is convenience. From the store shelf to the fridge, to the bag, to the point of need means there is no effort required to using an energy drink. The same cannot be said for the superfood smoothie.

There are a number of smoothie chains popping up. An alternate juxta to the caffeine by coffee offered by Costa and Starbucks. But where are the ready to go superfood, superfueled alternative to the energy drink?

The process for the DIY superfood smoothie is not without the need for effort. Buying the fresh ingredients. Deciding on what superfood powders to add. And finally blending them into a smoothie. Its a five plus minute job in the mornings and is probably the barrier between a healthy solution to a modern day issue and continued success of its convenient rocket fuel counterpart.

But solutions may not be far away. This author knows that moves are afoot in the industry and that solutions are in planning. The superfood energy drink for our busy lives may soon be upon us.
