Do You Think Steel Strapping Is The Only Used To Strap Steel?

It has been so long steel strapping has been used for bundling and palletizing across the globe. Right from bar and pipe to tube to heavy plate, steel comes in wide range of forms. Now recently I happen to stumble upon a common perception for many industries that steel strapping is a product that can only be used for steel and no other purposes. Which isn’t correct, let me tell you how!

Painted products- painters, powder coaters and galvanisers happen to send out a product that requires some form of protection from rust or scratching damage. Although common items used for such protection can vary from steel strapping to cardboard or plastic corner protectors to chunks of carpet or rubber and so more. Available from 16mm to 32mm, these products have an equal or higher breaking point than steel. So why anyone should consider wasting time, cost on those extra protective consumables when one has the fortune of buying a safe strapping product that won’t damage or mark your product- as far as the product is steel!

Pipe, Tube or Round Bundles- Tightly secured small, round bundles of steel or tube turns out to be the most common challenge faced by people in Australia. Due to several strapping materials and tools, your strapping become loose when removed from the bundle after tensioning. Do you know why? It’s simply because of the surface area of the ‘foot plate’ on your tool taking up the valuable space needed for tensioning. When removed space causes the strap to become loose. Apart from this, packs of pipes are also a tricky task as these generally have a much higher likelihood of settling in transport and becoming out of shape. As a result, they become an unstable load and dangerous on our roads. If you ask what’s the solution? Pulling steel strapping on loads can make things settled in no time avoiding them to become lose via transportation.

Securing heavy steel- In countries like Australia, manufacturing, mining, offshore industries often require heavy steel parts and attachments for breakdowns, maintenance, and refurbishment. In general, these items are so large and secured with ratchet straps to a truck or sent out in a custom-made stillage. It may quite interest you to know that ratchet straps are used as a strapping to secure the items as no steel banding has a high enough rating or is too cumbersome to use. In addition to this, they are even used to pack heavy items into shipping containers especially via sea.

Strap steel with sharp edges- I am pretty sure if you are known to the shipping industry, you must be well aware regarding the fact that steel products can often have sharp edges which can cut or wear through plastic type strapping. Plastic, woven or corded strapping is often a superior alternative to steel as it’s much safer. In case of involvement of sharp edges, the integrity of your strapping will be at risk due to potential wear or rubbing in transport. With the help of steel strapping, one can secure a load steel is to use edge or corner protection. More importantly, they provide less friction, meaning tighter straps and a more secure load!
