13 Guides To The Freshman

1. Get comfy with your new surroundings

2. Get involved

3. Seek counseling

4. Know GPA isn’t Everything

You’re not going to graduate and say, “College was the best experience of my life. So glad I stayed inside and got a 4.0.” Work as hard as you can and do your absolute best, but know that that may mean a C or a B or an A-.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask For Help

If you’re struggling in a class, reach out to the professor. If you’re having floor problems, talk to your R.A. If you’re not happy, talk to the on-campus counsellor. If you have troubles with disciplines, try to use tutor service. If you have troubles with the term paper, use the EssayPro service to write term paper. If you want to change your major, talk to your advisor. Reach out, reach out, reach out!

6. Keep an Open Mind… Don't be Quick to Judge ...

Be friendly, be welcoming and be open-minded. Give people a few chances. In college, you meet people from all walks of life and it’s best to be respectful and open-minded at all times.

7. Don't overpack. Your roommate will thank you for this, your R.A. ...

You don’t need 18 notebooks. Don’t clutter up your room before you’ve even started studying because the year only gets busier and it only gets harder to find time to clean.

8. Attend Welcome Events. Yes, they are cheesy. ...

You never know who you’ll meet. I actually met my best group of guy friends at an ice cream social for freshmen. At the very least, you’ll get free food.

9. Go to the Involvement Fair. Give all sorts of clubs a try. ...

Give all sorts of clubs a try. Don’t limit yourself to one area of involvement.

10. Let Your Parents Help You. ...

Keep in mind that college is a process for them too and that letting go of their baby can be equally as hard as you letting go of home.

11. Don't Forget Where You Came From. ...

It’s OK to miss home and it’s OK to feel like you’ve out grown it, but have respect for the place that nurtured you.

12. Call Home ...

Don’t be afraid to tell you parents how you’re doing and what’s going on in your life.

13. Work Hard

Play hard too, but know that your GPA won’t recover from a first-semester freshman slump.
