TurboTax Discount for U.S. Military Veterans? (Army or Navy)

There's been a bit of confusion as to the best way for members of the U.S. military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Reserves) to file their taxes with TurboTax. That's because there is no special "Military Edition" of TurboTax.

Instead, by using one of the standard editions of TurboTax you will have the opportunity to declare that you are a member of the military when prompted.

By answering that you are active-duty military, the TurboTax software will then prompt you with a series of questions to make sure that you get the most out of potential tax deductions and the biggest refund possible.

Do members of the military file (State and Federal) taxes free with TurboTax?

Yes, as of 2020-2021, active-duty members of the U.S. military qualify for free Federal and State e-file. You can learn more about how that works here or get started at TurboTax.Intuit.com here.

Do military veterans get a discount on TurboTax Deluxe or Premier?

Most members of the military qualify to file their taxes free with TurboTax. However, if you are not active-duty such as a veteran or USAA member you probably won't qualify for the free military e-file. Instead, you can get up to a $20 discount by using today's featured TurboTax coupon (or service code) listed here.

You might qualify for TurboTax "Free"

If you are not active-duty military and don't qualify to file free as a member of the military, you still might be able to file state and federal taxes free with their "Free Edition." There are a few requirements including your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) so click here to visit the Turbotax website to see if you qualify!
