How Surveys Help Uncover Illicit Substance Abuse Cases in Schools

Alcohol abuse is a big problem among America’s youth. The easy availability of alcohol, mixing with people who act as mediator between buyers and sellers, and the addiction that follows in case of alcohol thereafter are some of the primary reasons for alcohol abuse among youth in high schools of America. The reasons for going down that path vary from youth to youth, ranging from just for fun to escape depression.

But whatever the reason might be, alcohol is harms the body, not to mention that they affect the normal functioning of the mind and the body, with loss of concentration and memory power. In case of high school students, alcohol abuse is a serious issue that needs to be taken care of before it gets in the way of their adulthood.

But before steps for rehabilitation could be taken, it is necessary to detect the perpetrators first, which is not an easy task for the school administration. There are various steps that need to be followed, protocols to be initiated and counselling to be provided. And one way to do this is by using alcohol abuse assessment surveys.

Surveys are a major way for school administration to collect various kinds of data from both students and teachers, and similar surveys can help find out the effects and range of alcohol abuse among students. Such surveys are usually taken by students, and sometimes teachers, depending on the exact subject of the survey. Surveys consist of many questions covering a wide range of topics related to alcohol abuse assessment, such as their effects, possible incidents, changes in behaviors, addiction levels, openness to rehabilitation programs and so on. Some special surveys also ask questions about possible witness to alcohol abuse, which help students and teachers name a few specific students that they suspect are addicted to alcohol. Such surveys are usually anonymous, to protect the identities of those involved, barring the possible names of the perpetuators.

Once the school gets hold of all the possible data, the staff concerned with the results can then determine what steps need to be taken to decrease addictions, and what rehab programs need to be created for such students. Depending on the case, rehab requirements can vary from student to student. It will help those who strayed into the wrong path to correct their paths and re-introduce themselves as good citizens of America.

Finding out information about alcohol abuse in schools and helping those affected can save futures, relationships, and possibly, their lives.
