5 sleep routine tips that promote bonding

In the first few months, you and your baby are getting to know each other and are developing your new relationship. Taking the time to bond is one of the most important aspects in strengthening your connection with your baby - and one of the most important times to do this is right before they go to sleep!

Our bonding tips

Incorporating a few key steps into your nighttime routine will be the way to your baby's heart. Here are our 5 tips for bedtime bonding..

#1: Have skin to skin contact

Whether bottle or breast feeding, nighttime feeds right before bed can promote bonding and strengthen you and your baby’s new relationship. Make sure that during this time, you are getting as much skin to skin contact with your baby as possible. Your smell, heartbeat and touch provide reassurance and a sense of calmness for your little one, and will help them drift off into a deeper, calmer sleep.

#2: Make eye contact

During feeding times or when rocking your little one before bed, make sure that you are getting as much eye contact as possible. This allows your baby to learn who you are and associate you with feeling safe and comfortable.

#3: Talk to your baby

Incorporate your voice into your nighttime routine. Even though your baby is not able to understand the words that you are saying, your voice will allow her to familiarize herself with you and will bring her a sense of reassurance and safety when she hears your voice. Learning your voice will also help calm her when she wakes in the middle of the night, and knowing you’re near will help soothe her.

Include a lullaby in your bedtime routine

Read your baby a story before bed
