How to Select the Appropriate Golf Course Mowers and Equipment for Your Club

The primary equipment firms supplying the golf course maintenance industry, Jacobsen golf course mowers, John Deere, and Toro, have had an unparalleled year in 2021. Demand for new golf course equipment has soared to record levels due to the post-lockdown recovery of golf throughout the world in 2020, with orders 30 percent ahead of what many manufacturers predicted. Add in the consequences of Covid-19-mandated plant and golf course equipment manufacturing facility closures in 2020, a worldwide container constraint, and Suez Canal troubles earlier this year, and you have a perfect storm with a leadership team for new equipment longer than any in recent memory.

As a result, clubs must begin planning for their needs for the upcoming season in 2022 as soon as possible. Clubs should consider the following factors when establishing their golf course equipment requirements.

- When selecting golf course maintenance equipment, consider a multiyear, medium-term strategy.

Clubs should consider what they require today and their likely requirements, must-haves, and nice to have in the next three to five years. This list can then be prioritized, with investments spaced out over time depending on the Club's budget and other factors. Unfortunately, fleet investment is not a one-time event.

The annual investment will certainly be required to guarantee that the maintenance fleet stays fit for purpose. The course maintenance crew has the resources to meet the high standards anticipated on the golf course.

- Make a thorough assessment of your requirements. (Fairway mowers, golf green mowers, and anything else in between should be prioritized.)

Many golf clubs, in our opinion, do not devote enough time or attention to examining and evaluating the specifications for each piece of golf course equipment they require, particularly mowers.

Going to the market to price a golf green mower makes no sense since the specifications of the equipment on offer might vary greatly.

How do you choose the best golf course mowers and other used turf equipment for sale?

So, you've got your offers and must make a selection. Within any Club, there may be a bias toward a specific brand or provider; for example, one individual may advocate for a Jacobsen golf course mowers. But the club may have traditionally utilized Toro mowers; thus, any advice or choice must be founded on evidence and reality.

When you analyze the make-up of your remaining fleet, it can make sense to stick with a specific brand to give yourself more options. The cheapest mower may not necessarily be the least expensive purchase. More expensive equipment may have a better residual value, resulting in a lower cost to the Club over five to seven years. We feel the key is to determine which unit best fits your needs and makes the most sense compared to the other golf course equipment in your fleet. In the end, these variables take precedence over price.

What Role Does Golf Course Equipment Play in the Future?

The sustainability plan will influence golf course equipment manufacture and future direction. However, the turf management business is still decades behind the automotive and agricultural industries, and catching up in any significant sense will take time.

Some manufacturers have begun to develop battery-operated triplexes. However, these options have restrictions, such as the inability to utilize groomers and the possibility of battery life issues on frigid winter days. There are battery options for other smaller pieces of golf course equipment, such as utilities and pedestrian mowers. However, bigger surrounds, fairway mowers, and rough mowers are still a long way off despite hybrid solutions.

So, these was all about selecting appropriate equipment for your golf course. If you have any suggestions please feel free to share in the comment section.
