Garmin manufactures the easiest to use rugged GPS devices. It provides all the features to make driving a blissful experience. But, we must not forget that it is an electronic device made up of lots of other tiny components. One fault in one component can make the device behave differently. This can lead to a series of events which can make the device unusable.
Garmin devices are manufactured with the highest quality materials, they get signal in such regions where other devices fail. But, sometimes even these devices can fail.

Garmin GPS is not turning on:
Your GPS is not turning on despite several attempts. Then,
Press and hold the power button for several seconds:
Look out for the power button which is situated in front of the device. Press and hold it for several seconds. Apply pressure on the power button and release the button when the device is powered on.
Depleted/ dead batteries:
If you haven’t used your Garmin device recently or left the device powered on, the batteries may die. Make sure that your Garmin sat nav device is plugged into a wall power outlet or with the computer and look for the activity. If the device is not charging or doesn’t hold a charge for a very long time, then you should replace the batteries.
Bad or Loose micro SD card:
If your GPS device is not turning on, remove the micro SD card and then try to restart the device.
Bad device display:
If your GPS device is appearing to be off then sometimes it can be due to bad display. Turn on the device and then listen carefully for activity happening inside. You get a tone or vibration then it’s likely the display is broken and it should be replaced.
Broken logic board:
If your Garmin device isn’t able to communicate with the computer or wall outlet, then it may be due to the faulty electronic board.
Garmin Device isn’t getting a satellite signal:
The Garmin device isn’t able to acquire a satellite signal on powering on.
Reset the satellite data:
If the GPS is not used for a very long time period, the data on it can be out of date. It should now be reset by choosing “new location” from the menu.
Wait for some time for the GPS to lock on to the satellite signal:
After the device is powered on, wait for some time, i.e., 15-20 minutes to lock on the satellite signal. The data on the device may be old, it will need time to get the new data.
The screen goes blank and shows a single line
When the GPS device is powered on, suddenly the screen goes blank and starts showing horizontal lines.
Turn off WAAS:
Turn off the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) function on the GPS, this will provide a temporary fix for the screen issue. This function can be turned off by clicking the “menu” button twice. Then enter in the “Setup” and go for the “enter”. Reach for the WAAS option and then disable from there.
Download the latest drivers:
Get the latest drivers from the Garmin Support. Search for Garmin software Mac or Windows according to your computer operating system.
Garmin shutting down during use:
When you’re using the GPS device, it gets shut down suddenly.
Batteries of the device may be loose:
If your device has taken a fall or heavy shock then this could result in batteries of the device becoming loose. This can be fixed by putting a spacer in the battery compartment.

Make sure that the computer has the minimum requirements for the software to run.
Check whether the Garmin express is up to date.
Connect the Garmin device directly to the computer USB port and not on some USB hubs.
Check whether the USB cable is a data transfer cable. The USB charging cable does not allow Garmin Express to communicate with the device.
If everything fails, then restart the computer and try again.
