How to prepare for Naplan Year 3? Tips and Ideas

Teaching basic and elementary skills for mathematics and other subjects to your child or student is a good practice.

However, teaching mathematics is easier said than done.

Children hardly love studying mathematics let alone want to understand it.

While most parents would help their kids finish their homework or do it for their kids, mathematics is an important part of your child’s education.

The earlier your child understands the principles, the better.

If you are one of those people who struggle to teach your kids basic math and have your kids run around without paying attention, then here are some easy ways to deal with the problem:

1. Number Sense: Numbers to math are what alphabets to the English Language are.

With the help of solid understanding of numbers, you need to set a foundation for your kid.

Help your child memorize the basic chain of numbers.

Since pre-schoolers are still developing; you will need to be patient and focus on them memorizing things.

Although year 3 student is much easier to deal with than a pre-schooler, the hard work for teaching mathematics is still the same.

Also, make sure that your child is clear on the concept of numbers. Make them practice by asking them to count backward from time to time.

2. Use representations or pictures: Finding the correct way to explain math problems and principles to younger children is hard.

Their minds are not developed enough to only process data.

If you are trying to help your kid or students understand or grasp what mathematics is, then try using representations from real-life objects.

Make a presentation out of the goods and things your kid or kids love. Help them see what happens when they add or subtract.

Although math worksheets are the easiest way to help older kids find interest in the subject, younger kids require something fun every day.

3. Create practice sets: Depending on the age of your students develop some practice tests or practice papers.

For example, if you are teaching toddlers make a large empty shape of a number and ask your kids to colour within them.

However, if you are dealing with older kids, you can look through test papers, past year questions, etc. on Subjectcoach to help your child out.

The ways of teaching your child differ from one child to another. Find the correct answer to your child’s problems as per their needs.
