The Relation of Smart Lighting and IoT

It might be surprising to hear that, gone are the times when you would have to type and search on the internet for every time you wanted to know something. Over the years, the internet has revolutionised our form of communication. We use it every day for surfing information, sharing data, conversing with our friends, and connecting with people and all over the world.

This is known as traditional internet and has become ubiquitous to our living and socialising.

A more significant invention has come into focus lately, called the Internet of Things (IoT).

So How Does IoT work?

The data which we feed in our devices (can be in any form- numbers, words, images, etc., is translated into embedded messages. The central system processes this information to finally give us the outcome which we want through different platforms (things).

To put it into simpler terms, there are machines or ‘things’ that sensor data, perform data collection and send it to the internet. All this happens in real-time- to give us the timely outcome we desire.

How Does Smart Lighting Come in the Picture?

IoT is not a distant concept. You’ll find billions of devices which already use IoT. For example, smartwatches, thermostats. Your smartwatch can detect the number of steps you walk and encourages you to stay active.

Similarly, thermostats detect the temperature you’re comfortable at and change the temperature in the room accordingly. These are all smart objects.

One such smart object is smart lighting. Smart lighting is where you can control the lights from an IoT application or your artificial Intelligence (AI) assistants like Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri and so on. Lighting in the IoT-driven world has become so easy and beneficial.

Not only does it add to your convenience but also helps you in energy efficiency and various other benefits. Through smart lighting, you can have dimmer switches in your phone, at one touch. So at your one call, you can set the light at either a movie scene, reading mode or sleep mode.

IoT enabled led lights to have major significance in official buildings. Through smart metering of electricity, you can get beautiful results. Some of the advantages are-

According to IBM, the day-to-day operation of a building represents over 70% of the total cost of that building over its lifespan. By opting for smart lighting, you can save on a considerable sum of money and operational cost too.

IoT based light bulbs can optimise themself according to the occupants in the room. Hence, the employees will tend to stay motivated, awake and focused on the task in hand.

IoT also helps in increasing a person’s efficiency and hence leading to the greater company goal.

With more IoT platforms being invented every day, IoT is known to bring about ‘the next industrial revolution’. For various home automation and IoT devices, you should check out Legrand. They have a wide variety of high-quality automation devices to make your life simpler and more effortless.
