DIY Magnetic Tic Tac Toe Board with Xyron Creative Station #Giveaway

I have a new toy. And I am obsessed.
But I am not the only one. Our girls are also crazy for the new Xyron Creative Station.
In fact, Susan’s girls and I are currently working out a joint custody arrangement for our Creative Station. (Her girls informed me that it is coming back to their house – forever. But, I think I will win at least weekend custody by offering Creative Station crafting sessions at my house!)
My kids are away with their dad this week, but Susan’s daughter, Sophia, came over to have some Creative Station fun with me today. And boy did we have a fabulous time.
As I mentioned, Susan’s girls and my Olivia are all huge fans of the Creative Station. And why wouldn’t they love it! Within seconds, they can make stickers, magnets and laminate.
For this post, we decided to make a DIY Magnetic Tic Tac Toe Board.
Kids always love to play Tic Tac Toe. And with the Xyron Creative Station, you can truly get “creative” and print out any characters, letters or symbols you want to use for your Tic Tac Toe board.
How to Make Your DIY Magnetic Tic Tac Toe Board
Making my Tic Tac Toe board was actually super simple, once I got my designs made and printed. It was a perfect craft to do with my seven year old niece because it didn’t take too long and it turned out beautifully.
Sophia loved the process and the product. In fact, she is ready to make a new set — one with kittens and dogs this time.
Materials
To make my Tic Tac Toe Board, I used a Xyron Creative Station with its included 9 inch Permanent Adhesive Cartridge and the 5 inch Laminate and Magnet Cartridge, that is available for purchase separately.
I also used white cardstock and a color printer, as well as a metal cookie sheet.
Step One – Prepare Your Printables
To simplify my design process, I jumped over to PicMonkey to use some of their adorable clip art to make my board.
I used the ladybug and the bumblebee from the Buggles collection.
They have a ton of cute options, so you can click over and choose some of your favorites.

For your Tic Tac Toe icons, you want to ensure that your printable is only 5 inches wide if you are using the 5 inch wide laminate and magnet cartridge like I was. (If you don’t have a Creative Station, you can use magnets and glue to create your Tic Tac Toe characters.)
For my Tic Tac Toe Board, I made a “board” layout in Photoshop and printed it out on 8.5×11″ paper and then I trimmed off the edges to make my board a little smaller.

Step Two – Get Sticky
After trimming my printables to size, it was time to use our Creative Station.
First, we put our Tic Tac Toe Board printable through the Creative Station using the 9 inch Permanent Adhesive Cartridge.
This cartridge allows us to make a “sticker” by applying adhesive to the bottom of our paper/cardstock.
Once we have put the design through the machine, we simply remove the protective film layer from the top and our stickers are complete. The adhesive back of the new sticker is covered with a paper backing until ready for use.
Second, we put our Tic Tac Toe characters through the Creative Station using the 5 inch Laminate and Magnet Cartridge.
This cartridge allows us to make laminated magnets.
After we have put our cardstock of printed characters through the Creative Station, we used scissors to cut out the individual characters, which had become fantastic little magnets.
(Important Note: For my first test run, I used a lightweight computer paper, which rumpled a bit in the machine. Next I tried a lightweight cardstock and it worked beautifully. So I definitely recommend using a heavier weight paper or a light cardstock when working with your Creative Station.)
Step Three – Assemble and Play!
Now that you have all your pieces ready to go, just stick your Tic Tac Toe Board to a small metal cookie sheet, get your characters trimmed and get playing!
I hope you and your kids love making your Magnetic Tic Tac Toe Board as much as we did. I love craft projects that we can whip up in less than an hour.
