Beach Cottage 2 The Kitchen Before

Hello beach cottage ladies, goodness I’ve been busying around here but not getting much done, do you know what I mean? I seem to sometimes have periods like that when I seem to be doing a lot, not coming up for air, not sitting down and days go past very quickly, but when I do sit down I don’t seem to have actually accomplished much – do you get those days too? But then on the other hand when you look at it, there’s a house to run, five people to feed, a reno to oversee and a small fluffy putty and white dog to keep entertained when he’s not sleeping lol. I’m also the proud owner of a neck injury which has been with me for well over a month now – the combo of tennis and our salsa dancing meant my neck didn’t like it all very much and decided to show that in my right arm….I presented at my physio thinking the muscle had ripped right away from the bone on my forearm, the pain was very bad….after weeks of treatment it’s come out in the neck and I am hoping that this next week it will finally ease off…you don’t realise when you are in pain how it effects you until it starts to ease…

Anyhoo, I popped in here today to show you the before of the kitchen….sigh…I cannot even bring myself really to go into it too much…looks ok enough on here, in reality not very nice at all….I know, I know, what am I whining about…well let’s leave it at the fact that I’m very unhappy with it all….

As I said before the plan for this is to put doors in over where the sink is now and out to the front there will be an elevated deck which scoops around and down to the garden – this, obviously, will need planning permission, architects etc and all that stuff….and we have decided that that won’t be happening for a bit…need to have a bit of time off especially after what happened with the bathroom (which I might add has still not been resolved).

In the long run I would really like some handmade cabinets in here and a ‘non-fitted’ look, something that I often see in English country home magazines and which, if I am honest, I have always wanted…it’s about as far away from those 2m long caesar-stone islands in the middle of a kitchen as you can think…a kinda mis-match of handmade units and found things…the reality of that and if it will ever happen is another question…for now we are going to do a budget makeover…I am going to buy fitted off the shelf units for here, tile the walls, whitewash the whole area and put in a butler sink. The appliances are all new (the stuff that was here was condemned by the pest people – wide eyes people wide eyes) and so on those too I went for budget with the next part of the kitchen in mind thinking that these may not be here long…but having had to buy these already it means that the rest of it for a mini makeover is really just the cost of the units and a worktop.

And just you wait ’til I show you the laundry room, now that’s a corker…

S

oh and you see that floor there? guess who’s going to have a white kitchen floor, wahoo, haven’t told the other half of this renovation duo about that yet, ahhahahah
