My Review of Savers Thrift Store (Value Village) + Grand Opening Owings Mills, MD

From À LA MODEST

Here is the outfit I put together with the pink Delia’s dress I picked up from Savers during their sneak peek shopping event before the grand opening in Owings Mills, MD. They invited me to come as a local Baltimore fashion blogger to check out the place and shop around to my heart’s content (not really, but close)!

I didn’t really try on the clothes I picked out, so I ended up with really short dresses. Yikes! If you’ve got some curves (on the top, bottom, behind, or just from pregnancy), you will have to learn to try out everything, because you will end up with tighter or shorter pieces of clothing than expected! This dress was gorgeous nonetheless, so I paired it with all nude-colored everything from my headband down to the shoes.

If you don’t have a pair of flesh-colored capris, it’s kind of nice to have it underneath a short dress. I have a lot of black capris, but they don’t always look good when you’re trying to keep consistent with your color scheme (such as in this outfit). I wouldn’t recommend nude leggings or capris underneath a tunic or shirt though. You will just end up looking pants-less…

I don’t usually do anything special with my hair, but this style in particular is inspired by the pretty ballerina I really admired back in elementary school.

So… let me move on and talk about my shopping experience at Savers! For those who aren’t familiar, Savers is an international thrift retailer with more than 330 stores across the U.S. and Canada. They are affiliated with Value Village, so you might see them around with that name (or Unique) in your area. It’s a really great place to shop for both new and vintage items if you are on a budget or just want to hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces! I am both.

I’ve always liked shopping at Savers. I’ve been to many of them on the East Coast and was always impressed by the cleanliness and the amount of items they have to pick from. The clothing and shoes have varied prices unlike Goodwill’s flat rate, but the good thing about that is you can pick out the items that are on the cheaper side. Instead of buying all $7 dresses from Goodwill, you could just go for the $4.99 or $5.99 dresses at Savers.

Another awesome thing to note about them is that they do give discounts for donations, which is something Goodwill stopped doing a long time (at least in my area). Donating your used items to help people have jobs at thrift stores is something you should want to do anyway, but it’s nice to be rewarded, especially if you take the time and effort of putting your stuff together instead of throwing it away in the trash.

Here’s me below checking out with my blogger perk. Thank you so much, Savers!

Of course, my husband Rob is equally a bargain hunter. He came with me and bought more stuff than I did! He’s holding a vintage LJN realistic Entertech M-16 water gun, which has been reviewed by vintage gamer guys! Sweet.

The official grand opening for the new Savers in Owings Mills is from June 11-13, so don’t forget to stop by! The address is: 9800 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117. If you are in the area, just holler and we could shop together :)
