Brushless Contouring

Last month I was lucky enough to meet Alex Box, the creative director behind Illamasqua. I've actually met Alex before and I always learn something new but this time I really had to share their new product with you and even more excitingly is how Alex taught us to apply it!

Last month Illamasqua launched Gel Sculpt & Gel Colour, £22 (available here) which are gel sticks used to add definition to the cheek. The Gel colours came in Charm & Fluster, both really pretty but nothing too revolutionary but it was the Gel Sculpt that really caught my attention as I have never used a gel contour.

Alex used only her hand to apply the contour, which is something I have never seen- even when using cream products to contour I always use a brush. Even more unusual was that she didn't use her fingers to apply it but instead the fleshy part of her hand, under her thumb. She simply applied a little product, rubbed her hands together and used it to really feel for the cheekbone and place the product exactly where she needed it. As it is quite a sheer product, and nowhere near as scary as it look in the tube the product looks very natural on the skin and you can simply tab over it to blend the product. It is very buildable and works on almost any skin tone to achieve anything from a natural to quite extreme contour.

It's a great product to travel with if you don't want to cary brushes although it's a product I would avoid applying over too much powder as I think it can sometimes I apply a little unevenly.

Really great product if you are struggling to get the hang of contouring, using this technique really helps position the product exactly where it should be and there is no need for expensive fancy brushes.
