Collection Inspiration: The Designers on Uncharted Voyage
Calling all warm weather addicts! Summer is practically here and we can hardly contain our excitement. We’re dreaming of long days at the beach, cookouts with family and friends, and discovering new places off the beaten path.
Our summer 2015 collection, Uncharted Voyage, recently launched in ALEX AND ANI retail locations, select retailers and on www.ALEXANDANI.com. A celebration of the thrill of summer, these bright pieces evoke endless adventure and mystery. Read on to discover what inspired the designers to create this colorful and textured collection!

What inspired this collection?
Carolyn Rafaelian (CR): Uncharted Voyage is inspired by the enchanting sea that’s called to the hearts of explorers for centuries, singing the promise of a new world. The collection draws sentiments from coastline adventures: traveling along undiscovered shores, seeing new sights, feeling the thrill of a journey that leads you to places you’ve never dreamed of.
Rachel Rafaelian-Ajaj (RRA): The boldness of the colors of the experience of traveling around the world and the energy/ enlightenment that you get from traveling.
What feelings does this collection evoke?
CR: The awakening of your inner explorer, the exhilaration of traveling in pursuit of the unknown.
RRA: It evokes a desire to take a journey within and find yourself. This was about that girl who was coming into her own and traveling the world. She’s coming from that place of spring from finding herself to now knowing herself and starting the journey for where that takes her.
Why did you choose the color palette?
CR: Since ancient times, the Mediterranean’s lively hues have charmed explorers who arrived at its seaports. These colors are taken from nature, inspired by the vibrant Mediterranean coastline: rich, cool hues of the deep sea, lush greens of palm trees, the blazing sun, and a collage of colorful sea life.
RRA: Because each of the colors evokes a spark within me as a designer but also within the girl that I picture when I am putting collections together. It’s bright which makes it feel free spirited.
What do you love about this collection?
CR: I love how bold these pieces are. A few of them incorporate wood for a distinct texture that’s ideal for layering. Uncharted Voyage displays some of the brightest colors we’ve ever used, while still relaying the relaxation that comes in the summer and still conveying the age-old legends told of the sea.
RRA: I love the free spirited summer feel that when you wear this collection you know that a good time is around the corner.
What can we expect?
CR: A bold collection with lively hues that evoke Mediterranean treasures, whispering to your inner explorer.
RRA: You can expect bright bold colors that infuse textures with an element of simplicity that allows your inner wanderer to find beauty in whatever treasures you find along your way.
