Designer Files: Parisian Chic Dining Room

As the finishing touches on our renovation are completed (and we approach the 2 year anniversary of owning the house!) I’m finally getting to design our interiors. You saw the nursery yesterday. Check one room off the list! Thankfully, I have our Designer’s Take series to look back on for inspiration! Remember that? When I tapped some of my crazy talented designer friends to offer up their ideas for our to design our house? Genius idea, no?

I decided to take at my own stab at it today. One major source of design inspiration for me has been Parisian apartments. You’ll see tons of them on my Pinterest board. The apartments are built around the same time period and feature similar high ceilings, beautiful moldings and historic details. And I’m a sucker for that chic Parisian minimalist that only they seem to do so well. It’s my primary source of inspiration for our dining room.

I’m particularly excited to design our dining room. While it was originally a formal space (it features these insane sliding french doors that shut it off from the rest of the house and a formal fireplace!), I want it to become the hub of our home. Where we eat, where we spread out and work, where we just sit around the table with coffee and magazines, or wine, music and good conversation. The pic above is a huge inspiration for my design direction. I love the paired back look. Each piece in the space is like a work of art in and of itself. And they let the features of the room really pop too.

There a few key elements to this look: Deep, rich wood tones; architectural furnishings; beautiful lighting; a light touch when it comes to accessorizing; an unexpected element. Case in point, did you notice that the table in the pic above is a rich forrest green? Not your typical color choice, but I’m obsessed (as I shared here). Here’s how you can get that Parisian chic vibe from the Kate Spade New York Home Collection.

What do you think? I’m going for a timeless, classic look in this room. I think it’s going to turn out to be a fab space!
