Through Art DepartMENTAL I’ve been able to highlight the work of some extraordinary production designers, but having said that– almost every single one of them have been mid-level or fully established production designers. I’m looking to change that. I want to help showcase the work of tomorrow’s great production designers too.
It’s been a long time coming but I’m finally able to announce that our new ‘Set of the Month’ monthly feature will officially begin January 1, 2015. Submissions are now open as of today at 12pm (noon) EST. Submissions must be emailed to [email protected]. Please read all submission guidelines and the FAQ before submitting.
Every first of the month I will choose a set submitted from an emerging production designer and post it to artdepartmental.com. It will also be shared through our various social media channels. In addition, the lucky designer will receive a certificate of merit and will be promoted for the duration of the month on our sidebar.
* Here’s what I need from you in your email submission:
* These guidelines may be adjusted as need be in the coming days
What constitutes an emerging designer?
No work produced or distributed from a major studio will be considered. No one signed to a major agency will be considered. It will be to my discretion whether I consider you an emerging designer based on your credits and work experience.
What type of project can be submitted?
For right now I’d like to keep the focus on fiction film projects. Fiction student films, short films and feature films will all be accepted.
How old can the project be?
The project must not be more than six years old.
Do I submit all my sets from a film?
You can only submit one set so make it your best. It should be what you consider to be your best work to date.
Do I need to submit every month?
There is no need to submit the same set more than once. All submissions will roll over each month into my selection process.
How often can I submit?
You can only submit once every six months.
Do you have to be from North America to submit?
No. Submissions can be from anywhere around the World, however I need your submission to be in the English language.
Must it be the production designer who submits?
Yes, the production designer must submit their own work. If you would like your production designer to submit a set that they designed let them know about our feature and help them with the submission process. I may need to converse with the production designer if they’ve been shortlisted so it’s very important they be the one who has submitted their work. It’s also their name and portfolio that will be promoted in the sidebar. It should be noted that the names of the art director and set decorator will also be listed in the sidebar if chosen.
