Fall Festival Art

If you need some inexpensive fall festival art, it doesn’t get much cheaper than this. Just rolls of paper, thick black marker, and lots of crayons. Oh, and lots and lots of kids to color. These banners were made over two 45-minute classes and I must admit that I have a brand new appreciation for good old crayolas, ever since.

MATERIALS
• Large roll of paper, about 30″ wide
• Black Sharpie marker, chisel tip
• Crayons

DIRECTIONS
Prep: Cut long strips of paper from a roll, about 6′ long. Draw large ears of corn and large fall symbols in pencil to fill each banner. For the corn, I drew the outside corn cob first, then a grid inside of horizontal and vertical lines. The rounded kernels were drawn inside each square. Lastly, the skinny husks were added above. If you can, try to freehand your drawings, having slight variations in each makes them look more handmade.
1. Students trace the lines with the Sharpie marker.
2. The space between the ears of corn may be filled in with the marker as well. The solid black color looks good against the crayon.
3. The art is colored with crayons.
