The Art of Vintage Paintings

Happy Friday!! Today I wanted to talk about a trend that I've been meaning to try for awhile--vintage portrait paintings. Actually, I don't know if I should really call this a "trend", but I will anyways. I love how vintage paintings look in a modern house! They also look great in a traditional, classic space (obviously)--but I think it's so fun when they're juxtaposed with more modern furnishings and bright colors. Posters and graphic patterns have been "in" for awhile, but these vintage paintings with their muted colors and serious-looking faces are more unexpected--and so much more charming! I think it's fun to imagine the stories behind the people in the paintings...you know, give them names and an imaginary life and all. You can collect a little family, or just have one vintage portrait that keeps watch over your room. Either way, they're a great way add a sense of humor and personality to your decor!

I love this trend so much, I seriously struggled with narrowing down the photos for this post...so it's a long one. Sorrynotsorry. Each portrait is just so different and full of charm, I couldn't cut any of them out!

You can hang them on the wall, or just prop them up on a ledge, a table, or even the floor (like the photo below). I actually love it when art is displayed casually like that!

A grouping of vintage portraits can look fantastic--or mix just one in with a gallery wall of other art.

I also love vintage seascapes! They blend perfectly with those serious portraits.

And if you dare, I also LOVE the idea of dipping a vintage portrait in paint. Definitely a conversation piece (but make sure to use something inexpensive).

What do you think of this trend? Are you inspired to start collecting vintage portraits? Or do you already have some?? I'm definitely going to start my own collection now...just gotta find some affordable ladies and gents!
