The Best Detangler That Won’t Weigh Your Hair Down

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with conditioners, leave-ins and detanglers—I work so hard to create lift and volume and body, yet the bird’s nest of knots near the nape of my neck ensures I have to use some sort of treatment to help me comb through. Most detanglers and leave-in’s would deplete my locks of any sort of volume I managed to build, smoothing my hair down to silky, slippery strands that feel nice, but won’t hold a style.

I recently discovered the Goldwell Dualsenses Ultra Volume Detangler (around $20 at select salons), and my hairstyling routine has been much easier. The detangler helps my wide-tooth comb to effortlessly glide through knots and it adds a bit of texture once it dries. It keeps the volume on top, while giving light, airy body to the rest of my hair.

It may not the most powerful detangler I’ve ever tried, and I do admit, I’ll reach for something a little more conditioning to spray directly onto stubborn knots that need a little extra coaxing (right now I’m loving the Wella Elements Conditioning Leave-In Spray, $22). For everyday, all-over detangling though, Goldwell certainly does a great job (even at the roots).

If your post-shower routine is a bittersweet battle between building sky-high volume and detangling stubborn knots too, you might want to give this one a try.
