Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette Review
Kat Von D has been killing it lately with her beauty launches, but more than anything else I’ve been enamoured with her new, limited-edition MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette ($60). The palette includes 9 of her Metal Crush Eyeshadows and 13 Matte Eyeshadows in an array of bold colors, rich neutrals and soft pastels.
First, the packaging is pretty awesome. As with all of Kat’s beauty products, she designed the artwork on the palette which is actually an ambigram—one way reads “Metal” and the other readers “Matte”. The palette is quite sturdy with a magnetic closure, but it is quite large (not something I’d be toting around while I travel).
It wasn’t actually true love at first sight with MetalMatte—I’m not usually one to wear brightly colored eyeshadow and at first glance that’s pretty much all I saw. However, as I played with the palette I realized that many of the shades were more wearable than I thought and there are quite a few neutrals in the palette as well. Even if I were to only like half the shades in this palette, I’d still recommend it.
The formulas are just SO. FREAKING. AWESOME.
The Metal Crush eyeshadows have reflective, shimmery textures and glide on like butter—seriously, I had to double check they weren’t cream eyeshadows as I was swatching them. They are some of the most pigmented eyeshadows that I’ve ever come across and as I worked my way through the palette I was getting more and more excited with each one.
Then there’s the mattes. Mattes are notoriously hard to get rich pigmentation without a chalky texture or tons of fallout and I have to say, Kat Von D nailed the formula. Each and every single shade was insanely pigmented, yet still incredibly smooth, silky and blendable. Even the pale shades!
I’ve always been impressed by Kat Von D’s eyeshadows, but I feel even more strongly that this palette—with its combination of shimmers and mattes, colors and neutrals, lights and darks—is one of the best eyeshadow palettes I’ve ever come across. It’s a brilliant artistic palette and also one that’s practical one for daily use.
Kat Von D MetalMatte Eyeshadow Palette retails for $60 and is available online at sephora.com.
