Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel Review & Swatches (Beautezine)

When Marc Jacobs first introduced his new cosmetic line, Marc Jacobs Beauty, one of my favorite products in the entire collection was the Lovemarc Lip Gels. This Spring, Marc Jacobs put a trendy twist on the original formula with the launch of the limited-edition Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Matte Lip Gel ($30 USD / $36 CAD). The new matte texture comes in five different shades, four of which I’ve been playing with recently.

The shades are gorgeous, including the ones I have here in Scandal (poppy), Pout (nude), Gossip (fuchsia) & Shout (coral). The packaging looks similar to the original formula, however these ones have a matte, black and white tube. I seriously love the look of these tubes and vote all of the lipsticks should come like this. The cap is magnetic as well- so no more lipstick caps on the loose in your purse!

These lipsticks apply with the same lightweight, gel-texutre that the originals do. It’s hard to explain, since there really aren’t many other lipsticks out there with the same formula. It has a buildable texture, which is actually quite refreshing to see in a matte lipstick (usually they are so pigmented they are difficult to apply). Having said that, they are definitely on the more “satin” side of the matte spectrum. They are actually described as having a ‘demo-matte’ finish and leave a bit of a sheen when first applied. After a few hours, that sheen disappears and you’re left with a stain of matte color that hangs around for quite a long time.

It’s probably one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks I’ve ever worn, which excites me as I’m not one to really reach for mattes that often. I’d think of these babies like matte lipsticks for those who don’t like matte lipsticks.
