Ch-Ch-Changes: Transition Coats

Change can be tough, whether it’s a new job, a new home, a new man, or even a new haircut. But seasonal change is one that most of us relish. As the weather slowly starts to warm up, there are simple ways to transition your wardrobe so that you can bask in the beauty of a few sunny days. Perhaps the most important thing for those awkward in between times is a stellar jacket. Something that is lightweight, but not so flimsy that it serves zero purpose against any sort of inevitable chill. There are tons of options for your outerwear needs come spring, but here are our top picks.

PATTERNS
A solid fabric may be your inclination when choosing a topper, but Diane Kruger encourages us to take a chance with pattern. If your closet is filled with basic colors, you will easily be able to integrate a more decorative coat into your repertoire.
TRY:
Previously impossible, the Rag & Bone Randi Cotton Camo Jacket ($795) makes you look tough AND sweet at the same time.

Definitely not the most versatile or practical option, but that doesn’t take away from its awesomeness: Alice Olivia Silk Kimono Jacket ($600).

Topshop’s Tile Print Bomber Jacket ($105) is like an amazing silk scarf, but with sleeves and a zipper. Pair it with your favorite black skinnies for an effortless outfit.

Rich brocade for under $100? Yes, please. H&M Quilted Jacket ($60)

TRENCHES
Classically British like Emma Watson, a perfectly cut trench coat is something every woman needs in her closet. Trench coats work just as well over a dress for work as they do on weekends paired over boyfriend jeans. Or even with absolutely nothing underneath… when meeting your boyfriend for a late night love-fest.
TRY:
Michael Kors Convertible Cape/Trench ($1595) is an unexpected spin on a classic. Probably not the best for rainy days, but perfect every other day.

If you want a classic piece that is anything but basic, try LE Trench LE Noir ($495). The embossed leather reptile is everything.

Longer coats can overwhelm smaller frames, so try the Gap Short Mac Coat ($98) for pint-sized perfection.

Classic, simple, and at the right price: H&M Trench Coat ($70)

FAUX-FUR
Most people embrace fur (preferably faux!) during the winter months. However, faux-fur is a great lightweight option when it’s

not too hot and not too cold. Wear one of these fashionable coats to a weekend brunch with friends, or on date night for a little extra glam.
TRY:
Nina Ricci Reversible Patchwork Faux-Fur Coat ($2100) is so major, you’ll want to keep it under lock and key. This is the type of jacket that starts cat fights, literally.

SHRIMPS Agnes Faux Fur-Trimmed Brushed-Felt Biker Jacket ($840) has a removable collar—two jackets in one, ch-ching!

Hi, Kate Moss; do we look like you yet? Smythe Faux-Fur Cropped Jacket ($173)

The Glint Faux-Fur Shrug ($46) is perfect over a cocktail dress for an evening event. You will look so luxe, no one will know you spent less on it than you did your hair color.

PASTELS
Kourtney Kardashian looks like the perfect lady in her pastel overcoat, and nothing quite says spring like these floral shades. Pick a coat in a pastel hue for an added ladylike effect.
TRY:
Can a biker babe be sweet and innocent? She can in the VEDA Max Classic Smooth Jacket ($898) or the River Island Pastel Duster Jacket ($110).

The Topshop Split Back Duster Jacket ($150) definitely has a masculine tone, except the petal pink hue totally contradicts that. And we’re serious fans of a fashion contradiction.

Bubblegum pink isn’t just for the school kids: J.O.A. Single Button Car Coat ($77) proves that pink is mature and fierce.

ANORAKS
As seen on Kate Bosworth, anoraks are a favored off-duty jacket. They look great with jeans or leggings for an added layer without looking too done up. Even better, they are easily packable, so perfect for any spring trips you may have on the horizon.
TRY:
Moncler is known for down, but their lighter offerings, like Moncler Hooded Anorak ($1095), are just as fabulous.

The cropped sleeves on this Ali Ro Anorak ($275) give it a youthful twist, and who doesn’t want that?

Orange is totally unexpected for a coat such as French Connection Fit&Flare Anorak ($138), which makes it that much chicer.

The Splendid Everett Anorak ($62) is a sporty, fun coat at a steep discount that you won’t want to overlook.
