Product Review: Charles Worthington Instant Root Concealer

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that colouring my hair is one of my biggest burdens in life. I realise that if this is one of the biggest burdens in my life I’m doing alright, but grey hair is something I’ve been dealing with since I was 17, and it’s a real pain in the you know what. When I heard about the Charles Worthington Instant Root Concealer I knew I had to try it out, because it could be a real game changer. And guess what? It is.
This product will not replace having to dye your hair (at least not if you have as much grey hair as I do), but I’ve found that it can stretch out the time between colouring for an extra couple of weeks. I use the shade ‘Brown’, which could be slightly too dark for my hair by the time it’s ready to be coloured (it tends to fade quite a bit), but I can still get away with it. The Root Concealer also comes in the shades Light Blonde, Dark, Blonde, and Dark Brown. To use, you simply shake the can, hold it 20-25cm away from the hair, and spray slowly and steadily to cover the grey areas and roots. Because my grey areas are quite small, this was a bit tricky for me – especially as a lot of the area is close to my forehead. The spray itself is not as precise as I would have liked for this particular area of my face, but it’s easy to remove any ‘spillage’ on the skin with a face wipe or a bit of makeup remover on a cotton pad. Because I need to spray it so close to my forehead I shield my face with my hand, which usually end up looking like this afterwards (which is fine because it washes right off with soap):
I use the spray after drying and styling my hair for the day, and on weeks where I don’t wash my hair daily, it stays in place for a full two days. Just don’t scratch your head, because your nails will come away brown. Yummy. The Charles Worthington Instant Root Concealer retails for $17.99 AUD and is available for purchase from Priceline (please note: product was supplied for consideration for review).
