40 Ways to Improve Your Home for Under $100

How stir crazy are y’all right now? Because it has hit mega-level over here. I was already thankful for home before, but in the midst of the state of the world right now, I’m even more grateful for the roof over our heads and the people under it.

And I hope you are able to find blessings all around you despite our current chaos.

I try not to let fear get the best of me while I see friends and family lose their jobs and the economy declining, because this WILL get better. And today’s page does not determine the rest of the story still ahead of us.

So…

Since I know so many of us are feeling unsure in this trying financial time, but a lot of us are also getting stir-crazy at home, I rounded up 40 fantastic ways to improve your home for under $100. And many cost absolutely nothing at all.

I hope it helps you find hope and excitement and even more appreciation for the home you have so that you can have a happy distraction from the current events.

40 Ways to Improve Your Home for $100 or Less

1. Paint a piece of furniture

Get the full beginner’s guide to painting furniture here with all of my best recs. I swear it’s not as scary as you think it is.

2. Clean out your closet

This printable flow chart makes it a lot easier.

3. Rearrange your furniture layout

It takes less than an hour and costs $0. And you can always move it back if you hate it. 😉

4. Spray paint a light fixture to update the look

If the color doesn’t look great, you can always spray paint it again. Paint color is an easy fix.

5. Build window boxes to add curb appeal

Bonus: use any scrap wood you might have lying around already.

6. Declutter & organize your kitchen cabinets

It does wonders for improving mood and lessening anxiety too.

7. DIY some large wall art

Find a pretty poster you like, use this method to mount it on plywood with a skinny DIY frame, done. And for way cheaper than buying from a decor retailer.

8. Paint a room

A couple of gallons of paint can ring in at just under $100 and definitely can make the biggest impact.

9. Change your shower curtain

That one piece of fabric can make a big statement.

10. Swap rugs from another room

Play musical rugs! (Okay, music optional but you gotta admit, that’s fun.) Swap your living room and dining room rug. Or your master bedroom rug with your guest bedroom rug. You might love it!

11. Swap out a light fixture

Flush mount lights and especially easy and inexpensive. Here are some of my favorites.

12. Change your bathroom mirror

Take down the big builder grade jalopy. You know you wanna. Here are some gorgeous mirrors for not a lot of dough.

13. Shop your house and rotate decor items from room to room

The perk of sticking to neutral decor with lots of great textures is they can be mixed and matched pretty much anywhere.

14. Add a wallpaper focal wall

Even better: you can get one that is removable peel-and-stick so you don’t have to commit long-term.

15. Change your window curtains

Curtain panels are magical because they draw the eye upward to make rooms feel larger and ceilings taller. Be sure to hang them “high and wide”.

16. Refresh your grout

I had my doubts about this grout pen, but it does the job!

17. Organize your linen closet

18. Make a gallery wall using thrifted frames and free printables

19. Clean out your bathroom cabinets

20. Paint your interior doors

21. Paint your shower, tub, tile, sink, or bathroom countertop

Word of caution: This project is fumey. But MAN it’s worth it! And it holds up beautifully!

22. Organize your laundry room

The prettier you make it look, the more you’re motivated to keep it that way.

23. Lime wash your fireplace

I was so intimidated by this one, but it turned out to be so much fun! The perfect afternoon project.

24. Paint your bathroom vanity

I use this faux weathered wood look using paint on basically everything.

25. DIY Pressed “Tin” Backsplash

No power tools required!

26. DIY Faux Brick Backsplash

Hard to believe it’s fake, right?!

27. Paint your upholstery

Yep! It can be done.

28. Add board and batten to a plain, boring space

I especially love it in dark hallways to brighten it up and add character.

29. Beef up your crown molding

This little trick is so simple and quick to do.

30. Replace your old shower head

It takes all of 5 minutes.

31. Encase your doorways with a faux beam

If you like the farmhouse vibe, this is a great one.

32. Make a wreath for your front door

A perfect spring/summer project

33. Trim out your windows with chunky molding

We ended up trimming all of our windows using this method at our old house. It completely transformed the rooms!

34. Turn your plain shower door into an industrial style shower door

This one takes a day or two, but the results are worth it.

35. Paint your bathroom faucets & fixtures

I swear it is durable! Just don’t scrub with anything to abrasive and you’re good!

36. Deep clean your house

This checklist is a big help.

37. Add some potted plants to your front porch

Cheapest curb appeal ever.

38. Clean and polish your floors

If you don’t do it when you’re stuck at home, when will you? Honestly.

39. Hang mosquito net curtains in outdoor spaces

They add such an airy quality to a porch and also help keep the bugs out.

40. Declutter & redecorate your kitchen countertops

Always with the #1 rule: Kitchen countertop decor needs to be pretty and functional.

Thankful for y’all! We’re going to be okay. 🙂 Hang in there!
