How To Travel Like A Local

By Darja Karstens

Skip the tourist traps

Why not try something different and explore local areas? Surely there is a lot of interesting stuff to see, maybe by bike or just by walking around in the streets - even outside of the central districts! It's also great to grab the local newspaper and find out what's going on in your surrounding. Maybe a new, small exhibition or an evening party? Try it!

Dress code

Everyone has a few pieces in their wardrobe that can be adapted to fit anywhere around the world. When you're abroad, visit some small local shops to see what people wear at your destination. Often times, you'll find interesting things at various markets, just keep your eyes open!

Behaviour & Activities

Take up local habits - hit up a café or a bar where it's nearly impossible to not to get in touch with the locals. These places are perfect for making friends. Start by talking to a waitress or shop owner and ask for some spots to visit, it will surely get the conversation going!
