Here are five reasons why warm water and lemon are beneficial.
1. It improves digestion and kick-starts your metabolism. Drinking lemon water on an empty stomach stimulates the production of bile and gastric juices, which prepares the body for food digestion.
2. It alkalizes the body. Although lemon is highly acidic outside of the body, it actually has an alkalizing effect once ingested. An acidic body is more prone to diseases; consuming lemon water makes our body a more alkaline environment.
3. It acts as a natural detoxifier. Drinking lemon water on an empty stomach stimulates liver function. It supports the body in the metabolism of fat and contributes to the elimination of toxins.
4. It's great for your skin. Lemon water can help improve complexion and clear the skin, due to its astringent properties and ability to flush out toxins, but also because of its Vitamin-C content. Vitamin-C is essential to the formation and maintenance of collagen, the main component of connective tissue. Its antioxidant properties can also help fight the signs of aging and promote healthy, glowing skin.
5. It's got your daily Vitamin-C fix. The high concentration of Vitamin C in lemon water also contributes to a strong immune system and helps the body fight illness and prevent infections, colds, and the flu.
