Your eco-approved travel guide to Copenhagen
Copenhagen has just been in the spotlight thanks to the fourth edition of the world’s largest event on sustainability in fashion, Copenhagen Fashion Summit. It’s clear that the city is committed to challenging climate change and making more sustainable clothes for the future (it’s also one of the most exciting places to visit for a city break).
So at WGSN, inspired by Denmark’s capital, we’ve created the ultimate guide to some of the best spots in the city. The places we’ve picked just happen to put sustainability at the forefront of what they do and goes to show that Copenhagen really is the role model city of sustainable living. Café Atelier September (Gothersgade 30, 1123 Copenhagen K.)
Start your day with a healthy breakfast at Atelier September and gather strength for the day ahead. Headed up by chef Frederik Bille Brahe and located in the centre of the city, this charming café serves the best natural breakfast and artisan coffee. Don’t forget to try the delicious traditional Danish Poppy seed rolls or “Te Birkes” and to pop into Atelier September Butik on your way out for a fashion hit.
GoBoat (Islands Brygge 10, 2300 København S.)
The Fashion summit took place at the Copenhagen Concert Hall close to the lovely waterfront area, head to this area and Islands Brygge, which is the perfect place for a stroll. Be sure to check out the famous harbour bath, designed by Danish starchitect Bjarke Ingels. If the weather permits it, rent a boat from sustainable boat rental company GoBoat located just next to the harbour bath. Grab a picnic basket full of organic delis from their GoDeli and enjoy Copenhagen from the canals while leaving a minimum impact on the city.
BOB (Halmtorvet 19, 1700 København V)
Come evening you’ll be spoilt for choice but we recommend that you head to Copenhagen’s lively Meatpacking District in Vesterbro. One of the hippest areas of the city it offers a vast selection of restaurants, bars and nightlife. A favourite place of ours is BOB, Biomio Organic Bistro . The largest 100% certified organic restaurant in Denmark it offers a selection of unpretentious bistro food.
Restaurant Relæ (Jægersborggade 41, 2200 København N)
In the mood for something a bit more extraordinary? Then try Restaurant Relæ on the hip Jægersborggade. With one star in the Guide Michelin Nordic Cities 2015, Relæ certainly doesn’t disappoint. Implementing sustainable practices across all of areas of its business this restaurant also ticks the box for the environmentally aware.
Nørrebro Bryghus (Ryesgade 3, 2200 København N)
Fancy a night cap? Denmark’s first CO2 neutral brewery, Nørrebro Bryghus has you covered. The prize winning brewery is focused on a commitment to climate change, it buys carbon credits to offset its C02 emissions.
