Valentine’s Day Red Lips & Pretty Gifts // Gift Guide

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. But you knew that. Chances are your plans this weekend are to go see 50 Shades of Grey this evening with your girlfriends and drink pitchers of Long Island Iced Teas (which may or may not have been an option for me) and then tomorrow spend the day getting ready for the date night to end all date nights. Sunday equals recovery day. All weekend the major things on a gals mind are red lips and pretty gifts. Here are some of my current faves of both.

My friend’s little girl, who just turned 6, was getting ready for her Valentine’s Day party at school and asked her mom if she could wear red lipstick. “Why?” her mom asked. “Because you wear red lipstick on Valentine’s Day. Every one knows that”. I mean… truth. For V-day I absolutely auto-reach for red. Day-to-day I wear a nude or pinky-nude lip… sometimes just a lip balm. But on Valentine’s Day, or during a Valentine’s Day activity (such as a party) I reach for the red. In honor of this Hallmark Holiday here are some excellent red or reddish choices that you can buy to wear this Valentine’s Day (or any date night, really!).

(L-R: Lather Cinnabar Silk*, Milani 66 Matte Passion*, NARS Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, Dior 758 Lys Rouge Rouge Dior Balm, NARS Carmen Audacious Lipstick*, Jordana Matte Style*, Cle de Peau 311 Extra Rich Velvet Lipstick, Make Up For Ever 8 Iconic Rouge Aqua Rouge Lip Color, Too Faced Melted Ruby and Fresh Sugar Cherry*.

In addition to red lips there is also minor major pampering involved in V-day. You want to look, feel and smell the prettiest. (Note: even if you’re not going anywhere do this anyway, because every one deserves all the pampering they desire!). And, you know, buy all the things because instant gratification is awesome too.

Clinique is synonymous with Happy. Everyone knows about Happy. But have you checked out Happy Heart? Happy Heart Perfume Spray* ($38.00 // Clinique) is like a warmer, softer and more floral version of Happy and I’m seriously in lust with it. It may or may not have to be my actual Valentine. $10.00 of the purchase price goes towards the Happy Hearts Fund. In addition to the perfume there is a Happy Hearts Chubby Stick in Plumped Up Pink* ($17.00 // Clinique) available.. you know I love me some Chubby Sticks. This particular one also benefits the Happy Hearts Fund so $3.00 of each one sold will be donated to the organization.

Sherrieblossom ICEbOX*. The end all be all of ALL of the makeup organizers and storage out there. It’s pricey but then you get what you pay for. If you’re into luxe and quality, this is the one you want your makeup to live in. I reviewed the ICEbOX Wide here but I have my eye on the Little London next!

OPI Infinite Shine Nail Polish* ($12.50 each // Ulta). You need to have your nails looking fresh on Valentine’s Day. While the OPI Infinite Shine system didn’t last any longer on me than their usual polishes but the shine could not be beat throughout the entire wear test (which I showed on my Instagram account). My nails were just as shiny on Day 1 as they were on Day 5. I’ll have swatches and a better review up next week.

Nail Butter* ($24.00 // NailButter.com). If you’re going to be flashing the Infinite Shine you better make sure your cuticles aren’t all raggedy. Nail Butter is fantastic for making your cuticles look renewed without worrying about greasy hands or gooping on too much product. Keep using and you’ll have the healthiest looking hands out of allll your peoples. Unless they use it too in which case at least you’ll match. It’s also great for those awful dry areas on your elbows, toes, feet… just bathe yourself in it.

Peter Lamas has two products currently out that you should consider putting into your routine. The Exfoliating Pumpkin Facial Scrub* ($19.36 // Amazon) and the Nourishing Buriti Oil Moisturizer* ($19.00 // Amazon). I’m not super crazy about the scent of the moisturizer but it feels SO GOOD. The “oil” aspect threw me off because I expected greasy and it definitely was not. This is meant for the face and neck but since I’m so prone to break outs I’ve been using it on my hands. The scrub smells amazing and isn’t too abrasive. I have sensitive skin so it’s something I could only use once a week or so, but it does a great job at polishing my skin and making it glow.

ALEX AND ANI got with The Child Mind Institute and Charity by Design to launch the Little Brown Bear charm ($28.00 // Bloomingdale’s) which will directly benefit the Child Mind Institute, the only independent nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to transforming mental health care for children. 20% of bangle sales will go to the Child Mind Institute. The charm, with its teddy bear image, is a reminder of the carefree days of childhood.

Lather has 100% All-Natural Lip Balms* now available three tinted versions ($7.50 each // Lather)! These feel, smell and taste soooo good. Super nourishing it’s seriously like a treat every single time I use one. Today is the last day to enter their giveaway on Instagram so run!

I feel like this listing also serves as a gift guide of sorts. Personally, I’d flip out in happiness to get a goodie bag with all or even some of these things inside. Add in some Godiva and I’m yours.

What is your go-to lip shade for Valentine’s Day/date night?
