Shelly and Trey’s Whimsical Boho Backyard Farm Wedding by Allisha Linnea’ Photography

Happy Wednesday everyone, I do hope your week is going well so far? Today I am taking you across to the US for the wedding of Shelly and Trey who were married on 16th September 2017 on Trey’s father’s family farm in West Virginia. The wedding was super personal to them, they even got married under the same tree Trey’s parents were married under, how cute is that! The wedding was full of colour and beautiful blooms. Shelly says ‘I wanted an explosion of florals and vibrant colour’ and this she got. She also wanted to incorporate her love of antiques, this was helped made a reality by her mother in law who is a big antiques collector. With all of their friends and family pitching in to help with other elements of the decor, and a pizza truck providing the food, this wedding not only looks amazing but was so much fun! Big thanks to Allisha Linnea’ Photography for the gorgeous images.

How they met
We met at a gym in Morgantown, WV. we dated long distance for almost two years before Trey moved to Indiana, PA, where I worked. We are both really simple home-bodies. I work night shift regularly, I woke up one Saturday afternoon and was sitting on the kitchen counter when Trey proposed. We had a perfect day after of lifting, pizza and sushi.

Wedding Outfits
I have always wanted a long sleeve dress for my wedding. I had tried on a few and wasn’t so sure until I found the Iona Dress by Leanne Marshall at Lovely Bride in Philly. It was so delicate and beautiful, yet still had a backyard vibe because it was so light and airy. I chose to have a different dress to change into for the reception because I was a little worried that between pizza and my messy track record I would ruin my dress. I chose a light blush sequin covered dress from Adrianna Papell.

What was the inspiration behind your day?
I did not have a specific color palette going into our wedding. It was more generalized as very bright colors. I wanted an explosion of florals and vibrant color. As far as the theme, I am a HUGE antique lover, and it just so turns out that my Mother in Law is a HUGE antique collector, I was very lucky to get to pick through her collection and use whatever I wanted for our wedding. I was going for a backyard boho/antique/whimsical type of theme.

Flowers
We ordered a bulk assortment of flowers from The Bouqs co, for various floral pieces on tables, which were placed in antique brown and clear glass bottles. I made all the bouquets myself out of fake flowers from Afloral.com.

How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?
I decorated the space with florals and antiques. The ceremony was in the side yard, there were florals, which were handmade out of recycled coffee filters, tied with ribbon to the chairs. I had a beautiful dresser/side table with a marble top with programs and coffetti, all of which were also homemade. All of the decor was made by me or my friends, with the exception of some last minute etsy buys. Our ceremony area had handmade quilt circles hanging from the same tree that Trey’s parents got married under. Big ferns surrounded the drop leaf antique table that was at our ceremony area as well. The backyard had a large tent that was decorated with string lights and muti colored pom poms. I handmade a giant floral centerpiece to the dance floor out of a hula hoop and florals, it was the favorite piece I made. We also had straw bales in a U shape around a fire pit, complete with antique vintage quilts all over them. We decorated the tables with white linens antique bottles and beautiful fresh flowers. I loved my signage, which was clear Plexiglas with white script. I also handmade a backdrop. Inside the tent on one side of it, was the backdrop to the sweetheart table and on the other side was a photo booth, with boho tassels bought off Etsy and potted plants.

Food and Drink
We used Timber Pizza Company out of Washington DC as our caterer, and they did such an amazing job. They brought their own brick oven and made four different types of pizzas. The best part was that they boxed up a TON of pizza at the end of the night for guests before they left. We also splurged and hired The Cozy Caravan at the last minute, as a bar. It was a cool old camper turned into a bar, complete with taps and a bartender. Our bartender did such an amazing job of keeping the guests happy and was so personable, we even got to serve some of our guests out of the caravan.

Special moments
We worked with our Officiant Jen for a while, separately, on ‘promises’ to each other. We wanted to have traditional type ‘Until Death Do Us Part’ vows but also wanted our own twist on them. Jen worked with us and we came up with a list of promises that we read to each other for the first time during our ceremony. Another beautiful part that is so close to our hearts is that we did a special dedication to our grandparents. I was very close with my grandmother that passed, and my husband Trey was close with his grandfather that passed. We had antique chairs set up by our ceremony and at the beginning of the ceremony we placed items to memorialize them on their chairs.

Advice for other couples
I would highly advise to get a day of planner. I could NOT have done anything without my day of planner, Amanda. She did such a great job and kept things so organized and I didn’t have to worry about it. More advice is that having a wedding on your own private property can be just as expensive, and MORE time consuming than hiring a venue, so make sure you consider that. However with that in mind I wouldn’t change a thing about the sentiment of getting married where my husband grew up and had such fond memories, the same place that will someday be our home as well.
