break for perspective

I’ve been thinking a lot about my business lately, and how different it looks feels from just a few years ago. I used to fall into this go go go mentality … something that over time, tired me out. Completely. After realizing that this particular lifestyle wasn’t sustainable, I pulled back and focused on getting myself healthy and back into a more manageable routine. And although the difference is tangible (and comfortable), it still doesn’t feel right. Part of this has to do with me being a recovering perfectionist, but the other part has to do with focus. I have so many ideas buzzing around in my head, that it’s become overwhelming to actually take that next step.

And then, just like that, a newsletter from my friends over at Hey, Sweet Pea appeared in my inbox at just the right time. They reminded me that it’s okay to focus on just one thing. By doing so, you’re putting your heart and sole into one goal instead of spreading yourself too thin. So that’s exactly what I’m going to do! Tomorrow, I leave for an eleven day trip to Rome Prague, where I plan to fully enjoy my time away and not work whatsoever. Then, when I’m back, my (fresh) focus will shift towards one major business goal: streamlining. AKA, niching myself even more and making my process as a designer more intuitive.

I’m hoping to share more about what I learn and decide along the way, as I myself always love seeing how other designers handle their own routines as well as business client management. But beyond that, I’m also curious as to what you’d all like me to share more of on this little blog. More life stuff? More business stuff? You tell me! I created a TWO question survey for those of you who are interested, because I’m 100% intrigued to hear what you have to say. You can take the survey right here. :)

PS. I’m going on my trip with two of my close friends, so the photo above put a smile on my face. Here’s to having a good time, eating a lot of pasta, and seeing all sort of beautiful new things!! Oh! And I’ll make sure to update my instagram account while away in case you want to check in see what’s happening.
