ONE Growing up, I remember playing outside
all the time. We built impressive forts (with built in beds), had neighborhood snowball fights, and would come inside every hour or so for a steaming hot chocolate topped with marshmallows before hitting the backyard snow piles once more. I miss those days. The days where I didn’t even notice the cold. Because MAN, has it been cold. But that’s what you get for planting yourself firmly in the middle of a Minnesota winter.
TWO Michael sent me a link to
this article last night, which I found pretty interesting! It describes several “cultural concepts” from other countries that don’t necessarily translate to a word here in the States. I’m really into the idea of “hygge,” a term used in Denmark that loosely translates to “togetherness” and “coziness.” That sounds pretty good to me, especially during our long chilly winter months. I’ll be practicing my
hygge by piling blankets on top of myself while eating popcorn watching
An Idiot Abroad (favorite!!) with Michael.
THREE I purchased an ice cream maker a few weeks back, and can already tell that we’re going to have a love / hate relationship. The problem is that I have an enormous weakness for ice cream, so there’s no stopping me when something homemade is in the freezer. And unfortunately (or fortunately), that’s happening quite a bit these days. I started off with a more custardy recipe from
The Kitchn cookbook, and have since graduated to
this base recipe adapted from the
Jeni’s Splendid ice cream method. Basically, I’m in heaven and there’s no turning back.
