As an adjective, brooding has a couple of definitions. The first and most common definition describes a preoccupation of morbid or depressing thoughts or memories. The second definition describes a scene cast in subdued light so that it may appear dark and threatening. Brooding describes many of my protagonists. Brooding conveys the experiences they have.
