I wanted a southwestern/Mexican wedding theme for the reception – which is one of the reasons we chose Cocina 214. The long table at the restaurant was adorned with a vintage lace runners and dozens of succulents and small cactuses in tall vases with rocks at the bottom. The cactuses on the table were surrounded by small, tea-light candles. The room was intimate and had a warm ambiance.
The biggest thing we did to save money was limit our number of guests to immediate family and a few close friends. We also chose a great restaurant (Cocina 214 in Winter Park) that didn’t have a minimum amount you had to spend.
The smaller the wedding the better! Having only immediate family and closest friends made the day so special. I got to interact with all my favorite people in a relaxed setting. Afterwards, we didn’t have the financial burden of paying off a huge wedding.
Our biggest splurge was the wedding rings. I just couldn’t resist the sparkle!
My favorite detail of my wardrobe was the birdcage veil.
One of the most memorable moments was a surprise guest. A little backstory – Marona, my best friend of 23 years, (we met in first grade) passed away last July. Her older sister was coming to the wedding and kept saying she had a surprise for me. As I was getting ready at the hotel, I heard a knock on the door. I opened it and standing there was Marona’s father, Ron. We embraced and I cried of course. It meant so much that he traveled from Chicago to be there that day. My dad wasn’t in my life growing up. Ron was always kind of a father figure.
