With a glance Wyatt Doran stole Harley Tatum’s heart. With each summer that passed, touch by touch, they robbed each other’s innocence, birthing a love that was so deep that it scorched within. Without warning, they were ripped from the clutches of each other, placed in lives that were worlds apart. Only to cross paths after a freak accident where Harley’s horse rig was flipped. An accident that Wyatt Doran, from fire station 32, responded.
The tension was immediate, the emotions were raw. One breath told them they were not the same as before, one touch…changed their world.

Review

That was such a feel good book! Although it was pretty angsty, in terms of the fact that they kept missing each other due to miscommunication, Harley and Wyatt’s love was just so beautiful and sweet. I got to read characters that I loved to hate and just loved to love. My favorite character out of everyone was Harley’s father. Even though he talked in riddles and wasn’t so blunt all the time he was still a good person and loved his little girl like no one else in the world.
Harley Tatum lives for her summers in the south. While everyone thinks it’s because she gets to spend three months riding and training her beautiful horse, that isn’t her only reason her heart speeds up and butterflies assault her stomach. Wyatt is her everything even if a relationship with him is forbidden. When circumstances rip the young lovers apart, it takes years for them to find their way back to each other. But will they take this second chance and finally move forward together forever? I loved that Harley grew in the story from start to finish. She wasn’t the same timid little girl she was in the beginning. She grew into someone that was going to fight for what she wanted damn the consequences.
Wyatt Doran was a boy’s boy. Liked hanging out with his buds and playing with the four wheelers and tractors on his horse farm. Girls were not even a thought, until he saw the one girl he thought he would hate on sight, steal his breath away and flip his world upside down. Wyatt was so damn sweet throughout the whole story. He did have his crappy moments but what really shined through was southern gentlemen that was going to love Harley till the day he died.
This whole story centers on Harley and Wyatt and spans a good number of years. The series name and the blurb are a little misleading. I know that I read that people expected more of a fire fighters side to things but that actually only took up a few paragraphs here and there in the whole book. The blurb made me think that the whole story was going to really center on them reuniting after years and only giving you a glimpse of their young love. That is not the case at all! About half of the book is when they were young and the other half is in the present after they reunited.
I loved reading about their stolen moments together when they were young! I also loved the country/southern lifestyle that they had. As well as the detailed horse farm everyone was working on. I love country books so this one definitely hit the spot. The most heart wrenching part of the story was when they were ripped away from each other…Man that was like a dagger to the heart!!
I only had a couple of issues such as the writing and the time jumps. It was told in third person and somewhat switched points of view a lot. It wasn’t a smooth transition and it didn’t usually stay in one character’s point of view for long. In my honest opinion it could’ve been written better in terms of sentence structure and clarity. My other issue was the time jumps. First it was one and a half years then two and a half years to equal four years in total Harley and Wyatt were apart. And that was told in like two paragraphs. It didn’t really satisfy me in terms of truly feeling what they went through during their separation.
Ultimately this love story shows how a love forged while young can turn into something unyielding and lifelong when the ones in love mature. Harley and Wyatt’s love affair was so beautiful and heartfelt. I loved the journey of them finding their way back to each other! I’d say if you want a good southern book with a horses and a love that is impossible to break, please come and pick this up!!
