This story was tiny but packed a punch! It is the first in a four part novella series about Grayson Ford and Emma Kinglsey. It ends on a cliff hanger that just about killed me but from this first story I can tell the rest of the series is going to be amazing. The characters just pop out at you and you can’t help but love them.
Grayson Ford’s home life sucks and he honestly believes he deserves the abuse that he has inflicted on him. My heart just cracked for him. Within the first few pages of the story my eyes started tearing up. I loved that we got to read Grayson’s side of things!! I can already tell that his character is going to grow and become even more wonderful than he already is.
Emma Kinglsey has always loved her brother’s best friend, Grayson. After years of secretly pinning away for him, her dreams come true…or do they? Grayson’s perfect image is completely shattered after a run in with his father but it doesn’t douse her love for him. She is in it for the long haul and she wants to be everything he ever needs. Unfortunately circumstances are not in their favor and they lose each other.
This novella was told in kind of an interesting way. It starts off in the past, six years ago, and then every chapter jumps ahead a year until you get to their senior year where the majority story is told. Then jumps to present day (three years later) and then promptly ends. It was also told in dual points of view of Grayson and Emma. I thought that this whole series was going to be set in high school but it is not. In my opinion this story is more a new adult romance due to the sexual content and the fact that they graduate high school fairly quickly in the story.
I absolutely love young romances. Those first butterfly feelings, first kisses, and all that angst gets me every time!! This itty bitty story really grabs your heart strings and pulls. I’m so excited for the rest of Grayson and Emma’s story. I already had guessed what twist Grayson had in his future but Emma’s twist…that totally slapped me in the face!! I can’t wait to read why she is where she is and what happened in those 3 years that were skipped in the story!!
