My Favorite Art Supplies

My Favorite Art Supplies | This is the number one question I get asked and I’m spilling all the details on my favorites from my printer, to which paper I prefer and all my favorite art goodies! This post contains Amazon affiliate links. Your price is the same but I get a small cutback which helps cover the costs of maintaing this website.

The number one question I get asked lately is “What are your favorite art supplies?” Namely, please ask most often about markers, papers, pencils, and my printer, so I put together a list of all my favorite creative and art supplies to share with you.

  • Sketch Pad: I use this Strathmore 11×14 Drawing Pad. I love the big size and the heavy weight of the paper. It withstands all my erasing and the marker doesn’t bleed through.
  • Paper: I print all my prints on Linen Coverstock. It works great for watercolor painting too. It’s literally half the price on Amazon than my local Office Depot.
  • Printer: I use an Epson Workforce 7620. It’s a beast and I love it. It can print up to 13×19 inches and it feeds heavy card stocks and speciality media like a boss.

  • Pencils: Palomino Blackwing 602 pencils are the bomb for lettering and drawing. The erasers can be totally replaced too which is really nice. (I’m holding a handful of them in the top image of this post).
  • Erasers: I use these PaperMate Black Pearl erasers. Not only are they cheap, they work awesome. Like all erasers, they leave some eraser dust when you use them but they “shed” a ton less than all the other kinds I’ve tried. Plus, they never look dirty since they’re already black.
  • Artist Pens: I use the Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen set (super fine, fine, medium, and brush nibs styles). My favorite is the 1,5 style tip.

  • Markers: I use good Sharpie markers in every color I can get my hands on. For the black ones, I am partial to the multi-tasking Twin Tips. The Pentel Fine Point Color Set are awesome for detail work.

  • Watercolors & Brushes: I just LOVE watercolors. They look pretty no matter what you do. I started with the Prang Watercolors. Now, I also use this Koi travel set. The Koi tube watercolors are such amazing colors and work well for mixing into water brushes too.
  • Paint Brushes: I use this Royal & Langnickel Brush set and my kid’s Crayola brushes (shown in above pic)!

  • Water Brushes: Brush-lettering is my newest love (see pic below). I use these brush pens with a mix of water and ink. SO much fun! You can also just fill these water brush pens with water and dip them in your watercolor paints.
  • Ceramic Palette: People always ask about the flower ceramic paint palette when I show it in an Instagram pic. You can find it here.

  • Calligraphy: I’m a beginner for true calligraphy. I’m practicing with this ink and this 6-nib set.
  • Alcohol Markers: I new to these and I have a love/hate relationship with them because they are SO AWESOME but they’re also so pricey! The Copic Markers shown below are my favorite but they cost most than the Spectrum Noir. I prefer the brush nib of the Copic but both give beautiful color and blend amazingly! If art isn’t your day job, start with the Spectrums.

And no art session is complete without coffee of course! (Coffee and paints in image below are from Target).

Happy creating!
