DIY – Heart garland

I won’t leave you hanging this Valentines day! Today I’ve got another DIY project for you that you can make with some scrap pieces of tin MDF, some pretty tissue paper, a cotton piece of yarn and a straw. I love how it turned out and I’m definitely going to make more projects with MDF in the near future. Love that stuff!

What you need for a DIY heart garland

  • scrap pieces of tin MDF
  • Mod Podge
  • fret saw
  • scissors
  • pretty but tin paper. Tissue paper is perfect but you could also use napkins.
  • piece of cotton thread
  • paper straws
  • dremel with small drill
  • pencil
  • white paint
  • paint brush or sponge
  • wooden skewer

How to make a DIY heart garland

1. Start with drawing a heart shape on one of your scrap pieces of MDF. Use a fret saw to cut the heart out. After you have created the first one you can use it as a guide to draw the rest of them.

2. Use your dremel with a small drill to create small holes on both sides of the hearts.

3. Give the hearts a coat of white paint. This will be the perfect base for the colors of your tissue paper or napkins. Let it dry.

4. Use Mod Podge to decoupage the paper on your hearts. With the wooden skewer you can push the paper inside the holes.

5. Cut one or more paper straws into small pieces and string the hearts and the straws on the cotton thread. You may want to add little knots at the hearts to make sure they will stay in place.

Your heart garland is ready for display. Isn’t that a cute addition to your Valentines Day decor? XO Wilma
