Now Listening: Podcasts for Creatives and Small Business Owners

I listen to a ton of podcasts. I listen to them while in the shower, on the treadmill, commuting, straightening my hair at work*, working on emails to my newsletter subscribers, and finalizing client work. It’s to the point where the voices are comforting and it makes me feel like I am just listening in on some friends having a chat. That may sound weird, but if you’ve listened to podcasts in the past (beyond Serial), you know that feeling of hearing the introduction music to your favorite subscriptions…it’s a feeling of ease or maybe even that, energizing “let’s get shit done!” feeling.

So now that you’ve made it through Serial, maybe you are interested in trying out more podcasts to fill that void? I’m always willing to try out a new-to-me podcast and am usually a little too quick to suggest a subscription to friends. I’m not going to go into too much detail about the podcasts listed below…the titles explain themselves and I don’t want you to think I’m trying to “sell” them. Just poke around a bit and enjoy!

Podcasts for Creatives and Small Business Owners

  • 1 Day Business Breakthrough is with Chris Ducker and Pat Flynn (you’ll see that Pat has two other podcasts listed below) where they hear from a listener with a question (generally about how to make a specific business bigger/more profitable/better) and they both brainstorm ideas for the listener. I’m not always a fan of Chris Ducker but I’m always Team Pat so I listen from time to time
  • Ask Pat is Pat Flynn’s second podcast…this time, it’s a daily podcast where he answers a listener question. I really enjoy the short episodes and Pat’s always a welcome voice/personality while I’m working
  • Call to Action is from Unbounce, the experts in landing pages. I think it’s still a new podcast and I’m really enjoying the specific focus on copywriting and sales pages
  • Elise Gets Crafty is by Elise Blaha and it’s for creative folks who run their own businesses. I like the guests Elise brings on
  • Being Boss is still pretty new but I’m loving it. It’s a little like the book #Girlboss but as a weekly podcast
  • Entrepreneur on Fire is a favorite of mine because the format is predictable and it’s different because the podcast is daily…yes, daily. John Lee Dumas was one of the first people to try the daily format and it’s become a fairly popular schedule
  • The Suitcase Entrepreneur used to be only weekly but it’s now twice a week! The focus here is creating a business that lets you travel the world
  • Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield – I’m working through this subscription from the beginning…Amy comes off as a little stiff/rehearsed but I think it’s because she wants to provide a quality product and she’s used to webinars and video where talking like a salesperson is expected. She has great info but I can only listen to an episode at a time because I’m more into a conversational tone
  • The Smart Passive Income Podcast is Pat Flynn’s original podcast and it’s fantastic
  • The Paperclipping Roundtable weekly podcast sharing news, information, tips, and more about scrapbooking and memory-keeping
  • She Percolates weekly podcast about what success means to different people. It’s a newer podcast and worth a listen
