Matsumoto castle is one of the four castles (the others are Himeji Castle, Hikone Castle and Inuyama Castle) designated as National Treasures of Japan. I personally like Matsumoto Castle the most for it's sophisticated appeal.

Fortunately, there are characters roaming around when we've visited on a Saturday afternoon.

Matsumoto Castle is also known as the "Crow Castle" because of it's black exterior. It is categorized as a flatland castle (hirajiro) due to the fact that it's not built on a hilltop or amid rivers but on a plain.

The Moon Viewing Room is my favourite part of the castle.

Thank you mommy Gleah and her husband for this trip! Her hubby said that Matsumoto is best visited during May (Spring time) and August (Summer). Other places that I would love to visit in Matsumoto next time I visit are Norikura Highland Onsen, Kamikochi and Japan Alps, Utsukushigahara and Norikura plateau. SOMEDAY, I'll be back.
