Night Time Picnic (2006) (English)

The school’s students are going out on an annual walk. This walk is a long walk, we are talking about 80 km. During this walk, several students will open up and reflect on where they are in life and where they are going. In this group we also find two siblings who are not on speaking terms, will this long walk change that?

Night Time Picnic is a traditional Japanese film in which young people are about to step over to the adult world. They have a long way to go, and in the course of one day some friendships will become closer and deeper.

There are just too few characters who have the depth as the two half siblings have. Besides the two siblings, there is not much going on during this trip. The other characters are charming in their own way, but they bring no depth or life experience to the table. They are only there to be colorful characters.

Night Time Picnic is a decent film, but it should have had more characters who struggles with life and fear for the future and what it will bring.
